Are there side-effects?
There are very little side effects or complications associated with anti-wrinkle treatment. Redness is a common injection-related effect after treatment but is short lasting. Massaging or rubbing the areas treated is not recommended afterwards. Bruising can occur, but this is mild and again is short-term. To prevent bruising, we recommend you take Arnica tablets for one week leading up to your appointment. If a bruise does occur, we recommend applying topical Arnica cream to the affected area and to ice the treated area. It is wise to avoid strenuous exercise for up to 24 hours post- treatment.
How long will it last?
The average length of time the anti-wrinkle injections last is 3-4 months. However, this is variable, and it depends on multiple factors that are personal to you.
Glabella
The frown lines are the vertical lines located in between the eyebrows. These lines can become deep static lines over time. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles and therefore reduce the muscle movement, with a subsequent decreased appearance of the deep lines and a disappearance of fine lines.
Crow’s Feet
These lines are located at the sides of the eyes and are also called ‘smile lines’. They can give a ‘tired ‘appearance and can be a main area of concern for a patient. When treated, there is a definite improvement in the aged appearance and a improved sense of self-confidence.
Forehead Lines
These are the horizontal lines that run across the forehead. They are also referred to as ‘worry lines’. These lines are more evident in a person who is very excessive and uses their facial muscles a great deal while talking. Anti-wrinkle is used to prevent over expression and reduce fine lines to obtain a younger appearance.
Bunny lines
The nose ‘nasalis’ muscle can cause wrinkles to form on either side of the nose during laughing or smiling. These lines can be softened with anti-wrinkle injections if they are a concern for you. It is a very quick painless simple procedure with no down-time afterwards.

Do’s and Don’ts of Botulinum Type A
Do stay upright for 2 hours, try not to lie down flat in this time period. This ensures the Botulinum Type A stays in the cells it has been injected into and will work efficiently. You do not want the Botulinum Type A to spread to unintended muscles.
Do avoid getting too hot and sweaty for 48 hours after treatment. This includes saunas, steam rooms, sunbathing, sun beds. This is because excessive heat causes an increased blood flow and could disperse the Botulinum Type A and it may not last as long.
Do avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications after treatment. These can be blood thinners and can contribute to bruising. Avoid taking Ibruprofen for a few days leading up to treatment also.
Don’t touch the areas that have been treated. Avoid touching the areas for at least 6 hours after treatment. Resist the urge to touch and investigate your skin. After this time, you can gently cleanse and wash the affected areas with gentle mild pressure. Use gentle strokes away from the eye area.
Don’t exercise strenuously for at least 24 hours after treatment. It is important to allow the product to settle into the body for the best results for at least 24 hours.
Don’t book a facial, massage, dermapen treatments, laser treatments, or micro-abrasion treatments, for 2 weeks after your treatment.
Don’t drink excessive alcohol for a few days before your anti-wrinkle treatment, and for one day after your treatment. Alcohol thins the blood, and can increase the risk of bruising developing.
